White Sage opens the heart chakra and is known as a strong purifier. Originally, white sage (Salvia apiana) comes from California. For centuries, it was used by the Indians during their prayers and cleansing ceremonies, in the form of incense. White Sage has a very specific fragrance and is often burnt in an abalone shell. White sage removes negative energies and cleanses the aura and the environment. When burning sage, the air, mind and thoughts are also cleansed. A smudge stick is used by lighting the tip with a lighter or match and blowing out the flame, so that the stick starts to glow and the fragrant smoke is released. The stick can be extinguished in a fireproof dish with sand, in the earth or against a stone. In this way it can be used several times.
To cleanse your home, it is best to start from the top, downwards. When doing this, pay special attention to the corners of your home, as this is often where a lot of negative energies accumulate. Finally, work towards an open window or door so that the negative energy can flow out of your house. During this cleansing ritual, you can meditate beforehand and visualise your house being cleansed by white light. Using mantras can also enhance the cleansing. It is best to keep this smudge in a dry and dark place. This way, White Sage can be kept for a very long time.
