Cleaning and Charging Gemstones

Cleaning of Gems

A simple and quick way to clean gemstones is by using running WATER. This way, the stone is freed from static electricity. However, you must ensure that the water is not too hot, to prevent the stone from cracking.

Gems can also be cleansed usingWHITE SAGE, PALO SANTO of INCENSE, by lighting the white sage (or Palo Santo or incense) and passing the gem through the smoke.

A third way to cleanse gemstones is by vigorously BLOWING them clean several times.

BROWN RICE can be used to safely rid gemstones of negativity. The gemstone is placed in a bowl of brown rice for 24 hours (make sure the gemstone is surrounded by rice on all sides). After cleansing, remove the used rice immediately, as it has absorbed the negative energy from the gemstone. This method can be applied to all gemstones.

To cleanse gemstones, you can also use NATURAL LIGHT.

At dusk, place the gem in an open place in the garden, preferably in direct contact with the ground, (where the moonlight and sunlight can fall directly on the stone) and bring it back inside before 11 a.m. the next day. In this way, the gemstone can make use of both moonlight and sunlight. It is important that you bring the stone back in before 11 o’clock in the morning, because after that the sunlight gets too strong and might damage the gemstone. Afterwards, rinse it briefly under running water.

CARNELIAN, ROCK CRYSTAL of HEMATITE can be used under the form of split stones to cleanse other gemstones. You can place the split stones in a dish and place the gemstone you wish to cleanse on top of this. Then leave it for 24 hours to clean. This method can be applied to all gemstones.

LARGER GEMSTONES such as amethyst geodes, selenite charging plates or quartz clusters can also be used to cleanse gemstones. Place your gemstone for 24 hours in the geode or on the charging plate on cluster. This method can also be used for all gemstones.

A final way to cleanse gemstones is through VISUALISATION.

First take some time to ground and centre your energy. Then take the gem in your hands and visualise your hands filling up with radiant white light. Now visualise this bright light surrounding the gemstone and getting bigger and bigger. This washes away the impurities of the gemstone, cleansing it completely. This method can also be applied to all gemstones.

Stones like CITRIEN and KYANIET clean themselves and generally do not require additional cleaning.

By contrast, TOERMALINE and AMBER absorb a lot of energy and therefore require additional cleaning.

If a gemstone has really taken on a lot of tension, it is best to CLEAN IT THOROUGHLY. Then you put it in a bowl with spring water for 3 days (change it regularly), after that you put it in the earth for 3 days (not near plants, because of the release of negative energy by the stone). After 3 days, take it out of the ground and leave it for a few hours in the fresh air (not in direct sunlight). Then you can pass the gemstone through a flame several times quickly. This way of cleaning uses the 4 basic elements: water, earth, air and fire. This way, your gemstone is really thoroughly cleansed.

Charging gemstones

An easy way to charge a stone is to put it in the moonlight for one night. Ideally, you should wait for a FULL MOON, as the moon is at its most powerful then. You put the gemstone outside on the ground in the evening, in a place where the moonlight can fall on the gemstone. Thus, the natural energy of the stone is replenished. At full moon, you can even charge your gemstone on a windowsill inside, where the moonlight falls on it.

You can also charge a gemstone by soaking it in LUNAR WATER. Lunar water is water that is charged whole overnight under the full moon. This method is not useful for lower-density gemstones. Of course, this method can only be used for gemstones that are allowed to come into contact with water.

Gemstones can also be charged by burying them in the EARTH. In this way, they are both cleansed and charged. This method cannot be used for amber, malachite and calcite.

Finally, you can also charge gemstones by using SUNLIGHT. It is best to choose the morning and/or evening sun, because at those moments the sun is less intense than at noon.

This method cannot be used for gemstones such as amethyst, fluorite, tourmaline, aventurine, aquamarine, rose quartz, opal, ….. These gemstones discolour by direct sunlight.
