Black Tourmaline comes from the United States, Brazil, Australia, Afghanistan, France and Sweden.  

This gemstone is also occasionally called ‘Schörl’.

Originally, this stone was not used as a gemstone, but rather for its ‘strange’ ability to attract ash from fire.  This can be explained by its pyroelectric properties, i.e. when heated, the stone acquires a positive charge on one side and a negative charge on the other.
